During the 2nd weekend of Reach mission on the Friday
evening we heard David Banbury speak to a packed Central Club about his
experiences as an Army Chaplain in Basra. As well as hearing about hilarious
encounters with the "Honey Sucker", we heard moving stories about what
is like to lose soldiers who have become friends through the actions of
insurgents. We also enjoyed delicious Chinese food, once again courtesy of the
Chinese Gourmet takeaway!
On Saturday we welcomed the "Lilac Ladybirds" to All
Saints to run a series of wonderful craft workshops using enamelling techniques
and something called "friendly plastics". The Lilac Ladybirds also
spoke simply and powerfully about their faith. Saturday afternoon and evening
and our attention turned to children and young people. At St Luke’s there was
a special session of the "Seedling" toddler group for children and
families. Twenty five young people went to Upper Limits followed by pizza and
Chinese food and a session run by David at which we launched a new Sunday
evening group for our young people called Thank God It’s Sunday. This new
group now meets at All Saints Hall from 7pm-8.30pm. every Sunday evening.
On Sunday there were guest services at our churches to
conclude a busy but encouraging weekend. Thanks to all who took part, organised
and invited friends to the various events. There is much now for us to build on.
