Hello, I’m Becky Guerrard
(aged 25), and I’ve moved to Leek in order take up a post as Children’s
Worker for the Leek and Meerbrook Team Ministry, along with my husband Dan (a
music teacher) and our two ginger cats Marmalade and Biscuit. We’ve now been
here a month, and feel that we have settled in well, and we are very grateful
for the welcome we have received, everyone we’ve met has been so friendly.
Amongst other things my new job
will involve coordinating and helping lead some of the existing Sunday work for
children and young people at St Edward’s on a Sunday morning. The job will
also involve work in both Beresford and All Saint’s Schools, including taking
assemblies and setting up and leading some form of Christian after school
club/mid week all age worship. (As this is a brand new project for the team we
are still exploring what format some of the activities will take).
I am very excited to finally be
here, having got the job in September 2006, I have been counting the
months/weeks for quite a while! Prior to moving here I have been studying for a
four year degree in primary teaching at Manchester Metropolitan University in
Crewe, however I commuted to Crewe from Stone, where I have lived all my life.
I grew up attending Christ
Church in Stone each Sunday along with my parents and younger sister Libby,
however it was only when I was about 20 that I really started to understand the
message of the gospel and let it transform my life, rather than just believing
it. From there I became involved in a couple of short term mission trips (one to
Zurich in Switzerland, the other slightly less exotic, to Doncaster!) where I
discovered the joy of working with children and helping to teach them about
Jesus and what He has done for them. From there I became heavily involved as a
volunteer in organising and leading children’s work at my church in Stone. It
was my involvement in children’s work at our church in Stone that led me to
train as a teacher in the first place, and I feel that much of the experience I
have gained while studying for my degree will definitely benefit me in my new
role.
